3 Create Your First Patch
Let's create a simple synthesizer to get you started. This will teach you the basics of modular synthesis in μcor.
Step 3.1: Add an Oscillator
- Look at the left sidebar (Module Browser)
- Find the "Sources" category
- Click on "Basic Oscillator" to add it to your canvas
- The module will appear in the center of your workspace
Tip: You can also use the search box at the top of the Module Browser to quickly find modules by name.
Step 3.2: Add an Output
- In the Module Browser, find the "Outputs" category
- Click on "Audio Output" to add it to your canvas
- Position it to the right of your oscillator
Step 3.3: Connect Modules
Now let's create your first cable connection:
- Look for the output port on the oscillator (usually on the right side)
- Click and hold on the output port
- Drag a cable to the input port on the Audio Output module (left side)
- Release to complete the connection
You did it! You've created your first signal path. Now click the Play button at the bottom of the screen to hear your oscillator.
Step 3.4: Adjust Parameters
Try adjusting these parameters on the oscillator module:
- Frequency: Changes the pitch (higher = higher pitch)
- Waveform: Changes the tone (sine, square, sawtooth, triangle)
- Volume: Controls the output level
4 Explore More Modules
Now that you've created a basic patch, try adding these modules to expand your sound:
Filter
Shape your sound by removing frequencies. Try a Low Pass Filter to make your sound warmer.
Envelope
Control how your sound evolves over time. ADSR envelopes shape volume and timbre.
LFO
Add movement to your sound with Low Frequency Oscillators. Create vibrato, tremolo, and more.
Sequencer
Create melodies and rhythms. Step sequencers let you program note patterns.
Effects
Add reverb, delay, distortion, and other effects to polish your sound.
MIDI Input
Connect a MIDI keyboard to play your synthesizer like a real instrument.
5 Save Your Work
Don't lose your creation! Here's how to save your workspace:
- Click File in the menu bar
- Select Save Workspace (or press Ctrl+S / Cmd+S)
- Give your workspace a name (e.g., "My First Synth")
- Click Save
Auto-save: μcor automatically saves your work every 2 minutes when you're signed in, so you won't lose progress if your browser crashes.
